The Cartoon Museum Case Study

Many of us grew up watching cartoons. However, as we get older, we watch less and less and gradually stop watching cartoons. The cartoon museum is a museum that held exhibitions on cartoons from different countries and different generations. It is targeting the adult between the ages of 25 to 38, aiming to create a space for them to travel back to their childhood.

Problem Statement

Our target audience is adults between 25 to 38 years old. This population is often stressed because of their jobs or their family. They have to work hard for a promotion, for money, for family. The cartoon museum aims to provide them a space to forget all the troubles they have now and think of the happy memories they have had when they are little.

Competitive Analysis

The possible competitors of the Cartoon Museum are other instagrammable museums such as the Museum of Ice Cream, the Museum of Dream Space, and the Museum of 3D Illusions. After looking deep down at those websites, I found that they all share a similarity: a gallery that displays photos of their visitors took within their museum. This section plays a big part in attracting people to visit their museum.

After discussing with my peers and professor, I realized my initial prototype is missing a bunch of information that could help the visitors develop a better understanding of what the museum is about and what the museum is like.

With these all in mind, I iterated my first prototype and added the gallery section to make it fit more of an instagrammable museum. And now, the visitors can have a better sense of what they are expected to see in the museum, just by looking at the gallery.



Hand prototyping allows me to explore the different possibilities rapidly. I was experimenting with different ways to position the three main design patterns that I want to include in my website: the above-the-fold page, the calendar, and the card. I came up with three ideas and I chose a mixture of the second and third ideas for further developments.

Later, I transferred this wireframe to Adobe XD for my first prototype and the continuation to develop more iterations. The prototype went through two major iterations before it reaches the final.

Responsive Design

There are three different versions of the Cartoon Museum website: the laptop, tablet, and mobile.

The laptop version and the tablet version are very similar. The only difference between the two is the gallery section. The gallery of the tablet version is shrunk to three photos in a column.

The mobile version has more distinct differences. First is the above-the-fold section where the content is placed under the hero image instead of the right side of the hero image. The gallery and the calendar also shrunk. Last, the information within the footer goes vertically rather than horizontally.
